Dr. Kamran Massoumi

Dr. Kamran Massoumi, MD, is an ophthalmologist and the owner and president of the Oklahoma Eye Institute and Omni Surgical Center in Lawton, Oklahoma. Born in 1967 in Tehran, Iran, he was raised in a family deeply involved in politics and medicine. His paternal grandfather was a high-ranking military officer and politician, serving as the Minister of Agriculture under the Shah’s regime. On his mother’s side, He descends from Iranian royalty, with his maternal grandfather being three generations removed from the King of Iran. However, his grandfather’s pioneering career in ophthalmology inspired Him to follow in his footsteps. His grandfather was instrumental in founding Iran’s first ophthalmology department and addressing the trachoma pandemic that caused widespread blindness. His work profoundly influenced Him, who, by age five, knew he wanted to dedicate his life to improving vision care.

1983 He moved to the United States with his mother and younger sister due to the Iran-Iraq War. They settled in Marin County, California, where Dr. Massoumi quickly adapted to his new life, learning English and adjusting to American culture. He graduated from Marin Catholic High School before attending the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a double major in Medical Physics and Middle Eastern Studies. His academic excellence earned him acceptance to St. Louis University Medical School, where he graduated with distinction in research. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio.

After completing his residency, He initially planned to return to California. However, a shortage of ophthalmologists in Western Oklahoma led him to join the BVA practice in 2002. Motivated by his grandfather’s commitment to public service, he stayed in Oklahoma. Over the years, he introduced advanced technology and expanded specialized services. In 2014, he founded the Oklahoma Eye Institute, which brought specialties such as retinal and plastic surgery to the area. He continues to provide high-quality cataract, glaucoma, and laser treatments, ensuring residents can access world-class care without the need to travel far.

Dr. Massoumi also recognized the need for local surgical facilities. He opened the Omni Surgical Center in Lawton and an office-based operating room in Elk City to make surgery more accessible for patients who previously had to travel long distances. His long-term goal is to attract more ophthalmologists to Western Oklahoma, ensuring the region can meet its vision care needs.

Outside of his professional life, He is married and has two daughters, both of whom are involved in martial arts. The family holds black belts in Taekwondo, with his youngest daughter holding a second-degree black belt. He enjoys traveling and has participated in medical mission trips, including one to Vietnam, where he performed eye surgeries to help restore vision to those in need.

His dedication to improving access to care has allowed the region to become self-sufficient in meeting its vision care needs.
